How is your trust in God...and living from that trust? Pastor Todd shares about the fall series.
There is a story told of a weary traveler who had traveled for miles across the desert. His water supply had run out and with the sun beating down on his back, he knew that if he did not find water soon to quench his thirst, he would surely die. Well, sure enough in the distance he spotted a deserted cabin. And as he made his way to the cabin, he discovered an old well. As he drew closer to the well, he noticed a tin can tied to the pump with a note inside. The note read as follows:
This pump is all right as of June, 1932. I put a new sucker washer in it, and it should last for quite a few years. But the washer dries out and the pump needs to be primed. Under the white rock, I buried a jar of water, out of the sun and corked up. There’s enough water in it to prime the pump, but not if you drink some first. Pour about 1/4 of the water into the pump and let her soak for a minute to wet the leather washer. Then pour the rest medium fast and pump hard. You’ll get water. Have faith. This well has never run dry.
When you get watered up, fill the bottle and put it back as you found it for the next stranger who comes this way. Signed Pete
What would you do? Would you have faith to pour the jar of water into the well as the note instructed? God has called us to a life of faith. Hebrews 11:6 states: “Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.” Scripture tells us that God is interested in a relationship with us, so He wants us to learn to trust Him. And, that involves faith. In fact, without faith there is no way to please God.
Faith is the emphasis of our church wide spiritual growth campaign, “Daring Faith,” starting September 24. Together, our entire church family will seek to understand better, grow deeper and live out fuller a faith that pleases God. As in the past, this campaign will provide an opportunity for us to learn and grow at three levels: daily devotional readings, small group discussions and a Sunday morning worship emphasis. I cannot stress enough the importance this focus can have on our lives, our church, our community, and our world as we seek to live a life of faith that pleases God.
So, let me encourage you to fully participate by hearing all six weekend messages in the series, praying for the moving of God’s Spirit and joining a small group. New groups are forming, and we will help you get connected with a group when you sign up or contact our church office.
In his note, Desert Pete wrote, “This well has never run dry.” Likewise, God is faithful, and His promises are true. Moreover, He is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, more than we can ask or imagine according to His power that works within us (Ephesian 3:20). He has never failed those who have trusted Him. But, we need to trust Him and walk by faith. So let’s be willing to do that! And let us begin by making this spiritual growth campaign a priority in our lives and for our families. I look forward to beginning this adventure with you!
There is opportunity to focus on this significant topic at three levels:
- Large Group: Worship Services & Sermons
- Adults: Sign up for a Small Group & pick up resources at the Daring Faith table.
- High School & Middle School: Sunday School Classes
- Individual: Use the daily devotionals in the group guide.
